Woodmen’s Museum
Found about an hour out of Miramichi, the Woodmen’s Museum in Boiestown, is home to the annual New Brunswick Lumberjack Championships. This year, the event is held on July 6th. There, you’ll see professional lumberjacks and lumberjills from across the province compete in displays of extreme precision and strength. Registration begins at 9am, and admissions open at 11:30am, with the competitions starting at 12pm. They have competitions in bowsaw, axe throwing, standing chop, and underhand chop, to name but a few.
While you attend the competition, don’t forget to explore their open-air museum, showcasing the heritage, culture, and history of logging in New Brunswick, dating back to the 17th century. Discover the vital role of the lumber trade in the history of our province, and its impact on the early beginnings of Canada. The Woodmen’s Museum also has exhibits of the ecological history of the area, supplying a vast amount of information for visitors to enjoy, with well-groomed walking trails to explore it all.
The Woodmen’s Museum is also host to multiple community events, like the Woodmen’s Museum Annual Car Show ’n Shine, on July 14th, that is from 11am until 3pm. There, you’ll experience an inviting community celebration with fellow motor enthusiasts, with delicious local food trucks on site.
